What Value Does A Business Coach Provide

Well hey there!

Welcome back to the filing cabinet blog

This is such an exciting time for me and my business and I’m incredibly happy to provide insight into why you need a business coach.
To start, I always want to express my sincerest gratitude with my followers. It’s because of you that I am able to succeed and it’s because of your interest in your own business and financial freedom that I can help propel you further. In case no one has told you today, you are a remarkable human, you deserve everything you’re chasing after, and you’ve come to the right place.

OK, enough of the mushy stuff. Let’s get started!

You have some business ideas and they’re all over the place and so you’re looking for some guidance which made you wonder do I need a business coach? The answer for this, as always is, it depends. It depends on what you’re looking for in a coach and it depends on how you want to move your business forward. Let me expand on that. If you’re someone who just has ideas and you need to map them out, a business coach is good for that. If you’re someone who lacks motivation with your ideas, a business coach is also good for that. However, if you’re someone who wants to start or expand your business and not do any of the work, a business coach is not what you need. You need money and a therapist.

I think it goes without saying as well, that not all business coaches are the same. Some provide mostly financial clarity and insight while others might just provide motivation. So once again it depends on what you’re looking for. Because this is The Filing Cabinet website, let’s get into what value I provide as a business coach and then we can talk about how we can work together.

1. I Provide Clarity

As I mentioned earlier, you might be an entrepreneur who has a ton of business ideas but no way to organize them, and you have no clue how to organize or prioritize them. You could also be someone who is exploring entrepreneurship and you have a multitude of business ideas but you’re not sure which one you should pursue. Clarity on these questions should be your first priority, and that’s how I help. In our one-on-one brainstorming sessions, you can fill me in on all of your ideas and what your vision for your ideal business is. It’s my job to clear out the gray area and form a more black-and-white picture of how you can begin.

Here’s an example: you thrift clothes and sell them for profit on clothing exchange websites. You’re trying to figure out if there is a way that you can legitimize the work that you do, teach other people how to do it, and perhaps make a more passive income doing it. You even expressed to me that maybe one day you could create your own platform for selling thrifted clothes for a profit. You expressed all of these things to me in our brainstorming session, and one of the first things I would tell you is the platform would be last. While that’s probably the most intriguing, you haven't established any legitimacy in the grand scheme of things, why should people use your platform? You have to give people a reason to use your products and services and prove that you provide a solution to a problem. So we would put that at the bottom of the to-do list.

In this case, I would recommend that we create a business name and legitimize it through a sole proprietorship or LLC. I would then recommend that you create a free guide for two things any person who is interested in thrifting would need to know to get started.

If you have a solid social media following, I would recommend that you feel out your audience. See if they are interested in guides or courses or books on how to thrift and make money. If you aren’t already giving out small tidbits of free information, I would recommend that you start doing that. Anything to show people that you are an expert in this field of practice.

Additionally, I would recommend that you start a website. If you have the resources to hire someone to do it for you then that is definitely the path I would take. However, there are platforms that you can use that are simple for every day business owners that don’t require coding knowledge. We can talk through all of the content that you should have on your website and I can refer you to additional resources for website building.

A great way to begin a passive income stream is with an ebook or eguide. It could either be an extension of your free material or a more detailed explanation of how to thrift and make money. We can also clarify that in our brainstorming session. How it should be priced and how customers will be able to purchase it.

Once the website is up and running and people are purchasing your eguide, we can explore options like merchandise for your brand and a course.
It’s important to note that this all takes time. Insert cliche “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” All of this clarity comes from time learning what works best, planning a path forward and working the path. While one session could provide a ton of clarity, long term plans are better suited for building and expanding small businesses because we will always be working with the most up-to-date information and knowledge.

2. I Provide Motivation and Reassurance

Starting a business is no easy task. There are going to be many times when you just don’t feel motivated to put the work in or you feel like perhaps that you’re not doing the right thing or that you’ve taken on too much. Those are perfectly normal feelings. The question is how do you work through them and continue to build your dream? Sometimes that motivation can’t always be internal. We deal with a number of internal negative voices and imposter syndrome telling us that we aren’t good enough or that we don’t know what we’re doing or that we could never succeed. Trust me I deal with this all the time myself. But I work with you because I believe in the beauty of the dream that you’re trying to build, so when you don’t believe in yourself that’s what I’m there to provide for you. I’ll always believe in you and I’ll always continue to push you to be the best version of yourself so that can continue to expand on your business.

But it’s also not always rainbow and butterfly motivation. As a business coach, I have to be honest with you. I have to tell you if I don’t think the next step you want to take is the best for your business. I’ll have to tell you when I don’t believe you are working as hard as you could be. And if your circumstances change during our coaching sessions, then we would have to have a hard discussion about how that impacts your business. Like I said, I always want what’s best for you and sometimes that means a brutal reality check (spoken in the sweetest way possible).

"The highway to your dreams is paved with the cement of reality"

When things don’t go your way, I can help find a different course of action. When things get exhausting I’m there to help you break down your goals so that way they don’t seem as overwhelming. When things become expensive, I’m there to help you figure out how you can reign in the cost. I’ll be like your little business best friend.

3. Everything is Personal at The Filing Cabinet

These days it seems like everyone is trying to sell a blanket solution  to getting rich quick. I’ve seen too many Instagram captions that say something like “How to make your business grow to six figures in three easy steps.” There is no such thing as easy anything when it comes to being a female entrepreneur. We already have the weight of the world on our shoulders so throw in running a small business, and now you’ve got pure chaos. These headlines are meant to draw you in to the product but the fact remains you still have to put in a decent amount of work. These products also tried to provide a one size fits all approach to business building. There is no such thing.

Here at The Filing Cabinet, everything is personalized. I work with you one-on-one on a consistent basis to provide you with a path that is going to best suit YOU and YOUR goals.

While there are overlaps on how you would start a business, I wouldn’t give a person trying to start a nail salon the same advice for opening and scaling their business as I would someone who is trying to start an online template service.
You might come to my company for something different like how to increase profits on your current business track while another client might come to me just to ask how she would add merchandise to her website. While the ultimate goal here is the same (which is to increase profits), there still needs to be an individualized approach for each female entrepreneur. This is what The Filing Cabinet specializes in. Grow your business your way, with a plan personalized for you.

So let’s recap.

As a business coach, the value I provide is in the form of clarity, motivation, and personalized plans
to help you achieve the business that you visualize in your mind.
We take that visualization and build it using a step-by-step process that best suits your individualized needs.
Honestly, that is something that you just can’t put a price tag on. If you were to sit down and think about the amount of hours you have spent on Google looking for the answer to one specific topic, only to have wasted time and finding no answer for your need, you can then appreciate how important clarity and personalization is in this process.
Time is money when you are a female entrepreneur. Your time will not return, but when you work with The Filing Cabinet, your money is guaranteed to.

Clarity! Motivation! Personalization!

Meet Alexis Frank

There are three things in life I’ve never enjoyed being: tired, uncomfortable in my clothes, and unable to afford the things I want.

Three things in life I had been for awhile: tired, uncomfortable in my clothes, and unable to afford the things I want (first world problems, am I right?)

Those things served a purpose in my life, but no longer suited who I believe to be, the best version of myself.

Let me give you some background

My brother and I were raised by a single mother, in NYC, who dedicated her life to teaching special education students. It goes without saying that we never had a lot of money. We never questioned where our next meal was coming from and we got to travel to beautiful places (on a tight budget of course), but we knew the reality of our finances at a very young age.

So in order to save my mother the ungodly burden of co-signing on loans for college, I joined the Army at 17, which for 6 years, made me both tired and uncomfortable in my clothes (those boots were not the business). But it was at this point, I experienced having money, and I knew I liked that. But the rest had to go.

I met my husband before I got out of the military, and we had our son. I worked for a few small businesses, spent some time as a SAHM, which I loathed (don’t judge, it ain’t for everyone), and finished up a few degrees. This left me both tired and unable to afford the things I wanted (which was just a nice vacation without a screaming baby for two nights). So again, I knew something had to change.

Fast forward to when we got the opportunity to change duty stations. I was finishing up my MBA and I was able to finally land a position in corporate America, which I thought I had always wanted (Alexa: play “living the American dream). I tried my best to make the most of it and to be grateful for the opportunity, but my commute was horrible, my pantsuits were tight (I was pregnant with our third child), my heels hurt, and most of my meetings could have been emails.

Then the pandemic hit, and I got to work from home. As horrible as it was, I finally thought to myself “this is how I do it. I get to work from home in my pajamas, make money, spend more time with my kids, and take naps.” But I was wrong again.

When my husband changed duty stations again, I was placed on a high profile program with my company that demanded mandatory overtime. I knew then that corporate life was never going to give me the time freedom I needed, and that starting my business was the only way I could build the life I wanted which included leggings and vacations.

The Filing Cabinet was born out of my realization that I had been coaching people ever since my teenage years. My friends and colleagues have always seen me as the go-to expert for pretty much any issues they have ever had. I pride myself on that, and I want to use over 15 years of that experience to coach you through leaving your corporate job, realizing your entrepreneurial potential, and helping you scale your life and business to unprecedented heights (and in your sweatpants, if you’re anything like me).

There is no blanket version of success, and I suspect you are here because you are tired of the version we have been sold. We don’t dream of labor and hustle culture is toxic in our eyes. But we have the drive to build something big, so that we can take advantage of the fruits of our labor, far sooner rather than later

Are you finally ready to spend more time doing things that light up your soul? Then let’s get started
